Similarly to Breathe and SEE YOU, the song is pretty upbeat and doesn't have any screaming vocals.

Stay the Course - Another fantastic song. I know they could never reproduce that kind of song.)

(You may wonder why it's not number one, and that's because The Side Effects is just so different, yet so good. It's got everything I could ever want from a coldrain song.

It's got slapping guitars, amazing percussion (seriously, the drumming on this album is insane), and Masato's awesome vocals preaching about how to never give up and move on from mistakes. That drop into the main riff is actually perfect.īreathe - Probably my second favorite song on the album, Breathe is my ideal coldrain song. Also, this song has the best opening of the album, easy. The duality of Masato's clean, crisp, and direct vocals for the chorus and his screaming, messy, and loud verses are killer and make the song all come together. This song is a perfect example of the hard sound that got them famous in the first place and continues the tradition of hard-hitting songs by coldrain.Īnswer / Sickness - While it's a little out of character for me (I'm not a huge fan of screaming vocals, to be honest), this song is one of the best on the album. Insomnia - Once again, coldrain proves they are king at post-hardcore. Masato's vocals are beautiful (not something you'd think from hearing some of their earlier songs) and the instruments are perfect for the sound of the song. It's a beautiful song about loss and grief and moving on, and they nailed every single bit of it. January 1st - It's a different sound for the band, but they nailed it with this ballad. Overall my favorite coldrain song of all time. The bridge is especially clean, with the EDM-style chopping of sounds and stitching them together to make that broken-up sound. The message and lyrics are superb, and Masato's vocals tie it all together. The hook is amazing, and using a guitar as the main instrument in an EDM-style beat is pure genius. The Side Effects - Easily my favorite song.

It doesn't leave a good effect for me, mostly due to the aggressive attitude of the song. SPEAK - Personally, while this song is really good, I don't like it all that much. I love the Eastern-sounding opening riff, and the percussion slaps really hard. SEE YOU - One of my favorites off the album. I love the message and lyrics, and it plays like a classic coldrain song, but I think they could do to expand their genre, which is what they do for the rest of the album. I love it, though.Ĭoexist - One of the weaker songs on the album imo. I'm super excited to see how it's used in Fire Force, but I'm sure it's going to be super controversial as an OP. Not a huge fan of Ryo's part, but it's neat to see coldrain collaborating with other Japanese artists (I really want to see a real collab between them and OOR). MAYDAY - Really good, a nice opening, really setting the tone for the album. Every song hits really hard, and I'm super impressed with Masato's vocals. It's probably my favorite album of all time (or Kanjo Effect by ONE OK ROCK). Well, I'm a bit late on this, but I loved the album.
